Earthquake in Haiti - PEM member Convoy of
Hope is Responding.
Jan 13th, 2010
A 7.0 earthquake struck the
country of Haiti, leveling buildings, cutting off communications and leaving
the world wondering about the state of this poor country. Witnesses said
buildings were destroyed and many people injured. The lack of
communications is hindering the ability to determine the full extent of damage
and destruction.
The PEM-member Convoy of Hope is
establishing an emergency command center just outside the city of
Port-au-Prince where food, water and supplies will be distributed to victims of
the earthquake that rocked Haiti on Tuesday.
The COH Haiti country
director is on the ground and we are working closely with our partners to check
on the children we feed and also to assist victims with immediate needs.
Convoy of Hope has a warehouse in Haiti and has food and supplies immediately
available to those in need. In the next few days several more containers filled
with relief supplies will be prepared and shipped immediately to Haiti.
Initial reports indicate that
many buildings, homes and walls toppled under the strain of the earthquake.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Many of its nearly 10
million residents live in abject poverty.
For several years Convoy of
Hope has worked in Haiti and currently feeds 7,000 children there each day.
Convoy of Hope Europe
representative, Chris Dudley, will be leaving Brussels in the next 24 hours to
join the ongoing Disaster Relief efforts on behalf of the European field
office.
In case of needing a channel for the help, it is possible to contact Convoy of Hope and inquire about possibilities for cooperation. Donations help in delivering the aid. The gifts will immediately be directed to help the victims of this massive
earthquake. Convoy of hope is also offering the possibility for online donations via their website.
Thank you for your love and
concern for the children and victims of this devastating earthquake.
PEM Member Fida helping the victims of the earthquake in Indonesia
A strong earthquake was shaking the western parts of Sumatra Island in Indonesia on September 30th. The worst suffered areas are those of Padang and Priaman. The earthquake and the consequences of it have killed at least 1100 people, and the final amount of victims may rise up to 3000, as all disappeared people have not yet been found. 3000 have been injured, and homes of at least 400 000 people have been severely damaged.
Whole villages and hospitals have been damaged. Also the road network has in many places been destroyed, which makes the bringing of help more difficult. There is the danger that contagious diseases will spread from dirty water. Those who have lost their homes need quickly food, water, medicin and hygienic goods.
The GPdI Pentecostal church, which is the Indonesian partner of the PEM member Fida International, has appealed to Fida to gain help to the destruction area. The victims are being hepled from the catastrophy funds of Fida, and there is a collection organised for the cause in Finland. Fida, who has received the support of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs to its humanitarian aid since 1984, is conveying the help to the needed areas and straight to the local partners so that the help can reach those in need.
The finances are being sent to Indonesia via PEM account.

PEM Missions Course 2009 took place in Kolín, Czech Republic, and Klagenfurt, Austria
PEM Missions Course 2009 was organised in two countries. The first three weeks took place in Kolín, Czech Republic, where the students were served by a wide range of experienced and excellent teachers. The topics covered different areas connected to missions, and every day was also started with a time of prayer.
The last week of the course was the practical part, which took place under the premises of Impact Austria in Klagenfurt, in southern part of the country. During the week, the students were putting into practice what they had learnt and prepared for during the course. The week was blessed, and realised in cooperation with the local Pentecostal church. The gospel was spread to many hearts, and about 20 people prayed the prayer of salvation. The course did not remain on the theoretical level but took Jesus further to those who live apart from him.
In case you are interested in the course, contact PEM and ask about the possibility of joining it next year.
PEF-PEM Relief operation in Italy in cooperation with Convoy of Hope Europe
15 April, 2009
PEF – Pentecostal European Fellowship, and
PEM – Pentecostal European Mission, call for participation of the Pentecostal
European family to support and help the victims of the earthquake in Italy.
The need for immediate and long-term aid is
great, and also one Pentecostal church was completely destroyed in the
disaster. The aid will be collected via PEM to the PEM bank account, and
practical aid on the spot will be channelled further via Convoy of Hope Europe,
and ADI (Italian Assemblies of God churches), which are cooperating in order to
bring help to those in need.
Below, you will find information about the
event, and of the relief project, in which Convoy of Hope is already active.
A strong earthquake measuring 6.3
on the Richter scale hit central Italy on Monday, 6 April 2009. At least 280
people have been killed, with around 1,000 injured and 28,000 homeless. PEF/PEM
is in cooperation with the Convoy of Hope assisting the Italian Assemblies of
God (ADI) with their efforts to bring help to the victims. ADI is currently
giving shelter, food, water blankets and hygiene items to the victims from
their post in the tent Camp in L’Aquila. Due to the good work that was done
already prior the officials and army arrived to the place, ADI has been able to
remain in the tent camp area bringing help, hope, and comfort to those in need.
The proposed PEF/PEM & Convoy
of Hope operation is aimed at supporting the relief efforts of the AID for the
coming months. It will focus on providing food, shelter, social and spiritual
care.
The second phase of the operation
will be providing appropriate temporary housing plus a temporary meeting place
for the church and eventually rebuilding the church.
Let us as the Pentecostal European Family stand up and support those
suffering in Italy. Let us also pray that in spite and through all these hard
times, God would meet many individuals in Italy who need to meet Jesus.
